Streszczenie
Zapad tchawicy charakteryzuje się zmniejszeniem jej światła w związku ze zwiotczeniem części błoniastej i zmianami w pierścieniach chrzęstnych. Uszkodzenia zrębu chrzęstnego mogą obejmować również oskrzela i oskrzeliki. Obserwowane zmiany sugerują odmianę chondromalacji, jednak dokładna etiologia zmian w chrząstkach w zapadzie tchawicy nie jest znana. Najczęściej występuje u psów w średnim wieku, ras małych bądź karłowatych. U niektórych ras, takich jak yorkshire terrier, pudel miniatura, maltańczyk, mops, chihuahua, tracheochondromalacja może być szczególnym przejawem wrodzonej uogólnionej chondrodystrofii.

Abstract
Tracheal collapse is characterized by the tracheal diameter reduction due to a wide flaccid dorsal tracheal membrane presence and changes in the cartilaginous rings. Cartilaginous defects may extend into bronchia and bronchioles. These changes suggest a form of chondromalacia, but the specific etiology of cartilaginous changes associated with tracheal collapse is unknown. Tracheal collapse is common in middle aged toy and miniature breed dogs. In some breeds such as yorkshire terriers, miniature poodles, maltese, pugs, chihuahuas, trachealea chondromalacia may prove a specific manifestation of congenital systemic chondrodystrophy.
