Streszczenie
Niestabilność szczytowo-obrotowa (NSO, z ang. AAI) jest zaburzeniem wrodzonym lub nabytym struktur zęba kręgu C2 lub/i więzadeł stawu szczytowo-obrotowego. Schorzenie to dotyka głównie psów ras małych i miniaturowych, niemniej jednak można je także spotkać u innych gatunków ssaków, takich jak konie, bydło oraz ludzie. Od momentu, gdy Geary i in. w 1967 roku opisali to zaburzenie u psów, starano się znaleźć optymalny sposób jego diagnozowania i leczenia. Obecnie w leczeniu AAI stosuje się procedury zachowawcze, które polegają najczęściej na zastosowaniu szyny szyjnej, z powodzeniem realizowane jest także leczenie chirurgiczne z użyciem różnego rodzaju implantów. Bardzo ważnym aspektem terapii jest jednoczesne prowadzenie rehabilitacji pooperacyjnej, co pozwala na skrócenie czasu regeneracji tkanek i sprzyja szybkiemu powrotowi do zdrowia.
