Streszczenie
Mechaniczne opróżnianie pęcherza moczowego i tym samym „wypłukiwanie” patogenów, bariery anatomiczne (np. zastawki u ujścia moczowodów) oraz bariery biochemiczne (białko Tamma-Horsfalla, GAG) stanowią linię obrony organizmu przed infekcją dróg moczowych. E. coli, Staphylococcus spp., Proteus spp. oraz Streptococcus spp. należą do najczęstszych patogenów. W zakażeniach prostych można z dużym prawdopodobieństwem sukcesu zastosować amoksycylinę, jednakże w przypadku niepowodzenia leczenia, nawrotów lub w zakażeniach powikłanych należy wykonać badanie wrażliwości.

Abstract
Mechanical emptying of the bladder, i.e. „washing out” of pathogens, anatomical (e.g. ureterovasical valves) and biochemical barriers (e.g. Tamm-Horsfall protein, GAG) protect against urinary tract infections. Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus spp., Proteus spp. and Streptococcus spp. are the most common pathogens. In simple uncomplicated urinary tract infections amoxicillin may be used. In the case of a treatment failure, disease relapse or complicated urinary tract infection, urine culture and susceptibility tests should be performed.
