Streszczenie
Zawałem mięśnia sercowego nazywamy martwicę kardiomiocytów wywołaną przez niedokrwienie w przebiegu zamknięcia lub zwężenia naczyń wieńcowych serca. Zawały serca stanowi jedną z najczęstszych przyczyn zgonów w społeczeństwach krajów uprzemysłowionych. W medycynie weterynaryjnej zawały mięśnia sercowego są rzadko rozpoznawane w badaniu sekcyjnym psów i kotów, a ich znaczenie kliniczne jest nieokreślone. Zmiany te mogą towarzyszyć chorobom serca (np. kardiomiopatii przerostowej) i naczyń wieńcowych, a także chorobie zakrzepowo-zatorowej oraz innym schorzeniom narządowym.

Abstract
Myocardial infarction is defined as cardiac muscle necrosis caused by ischemia in the course of closing or narrowing of the coronary vessels of the heart. In human, acute coronary syndrome is one of the most common causes of death in the societies of industrialized countries. Meanwhile, in veterinary medicine, myocardial infarctions are rarely diagnosed in canine and feline post-mortem examinations and their clinical significance is undefined. These changes may be associated with diseases of the heart (eg. hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) and of the coronary vessels, as well as thromboembolism and other organ diseases.
