Streszczenie
Jaskra to grupa chorób oczu, w których na skutek podwyższonego ciśnienia wewnątrzgałkowego dochodzi do zaburzenia widzenia. Klinicyści zgodnie twierdzą, że jaskra z reguły ciężko poddaje się leczeniu, a rokowanie odnośnie widzenia jest złe. Należy więc jak najszybciej zmniejszyć ciśnienie wewnątrzgałkowe oraz uśmierzyć ból oka. Nadal jednak nie wiadomo, w którym momencie jest jeszcze możliwe zapobiegnięcie degeneracji zwoju nerwowego. Oznacza to, że nawet najlepiej dobrane leczenie, wdrożone we wczesnym etapie choroby, tylko spowolni jej rozwój, a tym samym degenerację komórek zwojowych. Należy więc liczyć się z tym, że nasz pacjent wcześniej czy później straci zdolność widzenia.

Abstract
Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases in which vision is disturbed due to elevated intraocular pressure. Clinicians agree that glaucoma is usually difficult to treat and prognosis is bad. It is therefore necessary to reduce the intraocular pressure as quickly as possible and to relieve eye pain. However, it remains unknown at what point it is still possible to prevent degeneration of the nerve ganglion. This means that even the best-chosen treatment implemented at an early stage of the disease will only slow down its development and the degeneration of ganglion cells.
