Streszczenie
Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie zagrożenia, jakie stanowi leiszamanioza dla psów w Europie, z uwzględnieniem Polski. Leiszamanioza jest chorobą wektorową, przenoszoną przez owady z rodzaju Phlebotomus. W wielu krajach południowej Europy przypadki tej zoonozy, zarówno postaci skórnej, jak i trzewnej, której rezerwuar stanowią psy, notuje się u ludzi. W wielu krajach UE wskaźnik zakażeń psów pierwotniakami wynosi 40-80%. Choroba powinna być odpowiednio monitorowana, jak również powinien zostać opracowany harmonijny system monitorowania i identyfikacji jej rezerwuarów oraz wektorów.

Abstract
The aim of this article was to present the growing importance of Leishmania spp. for dogs as protozoan parasite in European countries including Poland. Leishmaniasis is a vector-borne disease, transmitted by the phlebotomide sand flies. Zoonotic visceral and cutaneous leishmaniasis caused by L. infantum, for which dog is a reservoir host, is now endemic in southern Europe. In many countries of southern EU, canine infection rates may reach 40-80%. The disease must be monitored. The system allowing for the monitoring and identification of the reservoir hosts and vectors should be developed.
