Streszczenie
Celem artykułu jest ukazanie odmiennego sposobu przebiegu chorób u psów i kotów w wieku powyżej 7 lat. Wskazane zostały patofizjologiczne czynniki, które wpływają na odmienny przebieg chorób w starszym wieku. Zaliczono do nich i omówiono kolejno: wyczerpanie rezerw czynnościowych organizmu, odwodnienie tkankowe, osłabienie działania narządów zmysłów, mnogość występujących zaburzeń czynnościowych i narządowych oraz możliwość występowania działań niepożądanych leków używanych podczas terapii. Artykuł jest też zbiorem zasad i reguł klinicznych, realizowanych w praktyce autorów, które mogą pomóc lekarzom w początkach ich pracy gabinetowej ze starszymi psami i kotami.

Abstract
This article shows the different course of diseases in dogs and cats over 7 years of age and the pathologic factors important in geriatric patients, such as depletion of the body’s functional reserves, tissue dehydration, impairment of the sensory organs, functional and organ disorders and possible side effects of drugs used during therapy. The paper is also a collection of clinical principles and rules, implemented in the authors’ practice, which may be useful for the beginners in the veterinarian profession.
