Streszczenie
Nicienie z rodzaju Physaloptera to pasożyty lokalizujące się w żołądkach, rzadziej jelitach kręgowców. Są to hematofagi o złożonym cyklu rozwojowym, w którym kręgowce są żywicielami ostatecznymi, a owady – pośrednimi. Drobne kręgowce, jak żaby, jaszczurki czy myszy, mogą także pełnić funkcję żywicieli paratenicznych. Jest to rzadka inwazja psów i kotów, ale jej występowanie może być niedoszacowane ze względu na trudność wykrywania jaj pasożytów przy zastosowaniu rutynowych metod flotacyjnych. Standardowe badanie krwi często daje wynik negatywny.

Abstract
Nematodes of the genus Physaloptera are stomach or, less commonly, intestines parasites of vertebrates. These hematophagous parasites have a complex life cycle with vertebrates as final and various insects as intermediate hosts. Small vertebrates (frogs, lizards, mice) can be paratenic hosts. Infection in dogs and cats is uncommon but may be underestimated because of a problematic detection of eggs in routine fecal flotation. The results of blood tests are often normal and eosinophilia is not commonly seen in infected dogs and cats.
