Streszczenie
Zachowania zwierząt związane z przyjmowaniem pokarmów w dużej mierze wynikają z nawyków żywieniowych ich przodków (wilka, kota nubijskiego) oraz działalności człowieka (udomowienie, żywienie produktami gotowanymi, produkcja karm przemysłowych oraz styl życia ludzi, ich przekonania, diety). To, co dla nas – ludzi – jest zachowaniem niepożądanym, jest prawidłowe z punktu widzenia psa lub kota. Niemniej jednak zaburzenia takie jak anoreksja, apetyt spaczony czy polifagia powinny podlegać skojarzonej terapii dietetyczno-behawioralnej.

Abstract
Animals eating behaviour evolves from their ancestors’ eating habits (wolf, Nubian cat), modified by human activity (domestication, serving home-made diets, producing commercial pet-food), human life-style, people’s convictions and diets. The behaviour unacceptable from the human point of view can be appropriate for a dog or a cat. However, some disturbances like anorexia, pica or polyphagia should be treated by a proper diet and behavioural therapy.
