Streszczenie
W wyniku toczącego się stanu chorobowego lub stanu organizmu bezpośrednio po chorobie dochodzi do wyniszczenia będącego konsekwencją zarówno niedożywienia, jak i zmian w metabolizmie energetycznym organizmu. Wsparcie żywieniowe jest obecnie uważane za istotną część postępowania w przypadku krytycznie chorych pacjentów, szczególnie tych niedożywionych. Brak lub niewłaściwie prowadzone postępowanie żywieniowe u przewlekle chorych pacjentów zmniejsza szansę na skuteczność terapii głównej oraz przyczynia się do pogłębienia stanu niedożywienia.

Abstract
As a result of the ongoing disease or the state of the organism, directly after the disease, cachexia may occur as a consequence of both malnutrition and changes in the organism’s energy metabolism. Nutritional support is currently considered an essential part of the management of critically ill patients, especially those who are malnourished. Lack of or improperly conducted nutritional management in chronically ill patients reduces the chance of the main therapy being effective and contributes to the aggravation of the state of malnutrition.
