Wobec pozytywnych efektów wywoływanych przez nienasycone kwasy tłuszczowe na funkcjonowanie komórki i całego organizmu współczesne zalecenia dietetyczne stoją przed dylematem, na ile może być wysoka zawartość tłuszczu w diecie psa i jaki powinien być skład kwasów tłuszczowych? Tłuszcz jest najbardziej wydajnym składnikiem energetycznym diety i dostarcza dwa razy więcej energii niż węglowodany lub białko, z drugiej strony, nadmierna ilość tłuszczu w pokarmie to prosta droga do otyłości.

Abstract
As the positive effects caused by unsaturated fatty acids on the functioning of the cell and the whole body are well-known, modern dietary recommendations face the dilemma how high fat content in the dog’s diet may be and what the proper composition of fatty acids should be. Fat is the most efficient energy source in the diet, providing twice as much energy as carbohydrates or protein. On the other hand, excess fat in the diet is a straight path to obesity.
