Streszczenie
Choroby przyzębia (zapalenie dziąseł i przyzębia) to jedne z najczęściej występujących problemów klinicznych u dorosłych psów i kotów. Zasiedlające jamę ustną rzęsistki, podobnie do niektórych bakterii, mogą odgrywać rolę w chorobach przyzębia. Występowanie rzęsistkowicy jamy ustnej u dorosłych psów i kotów jest powszechne. Prewalencja oceniana jest w przybliżeniu na 10-25%, chociaż występują różnice zależne głównie od wieku i stanu higieny jamy ustnej. Dlatego w diagnostyce chorób przyzębia powinno być wykonane badanie parazytologiczne w celu umożliwienia wprowadzenia właściwego leczenia.

Abstract
Periodontal disease (gingivitis and periodontitis) is one of the most common clinical problems affecting adult dogs and cats. Trichomonads in canine and feline oral cavity may play a role similar to that played by some bacterias in the pathogenesis of periodontal disease. Trichomoniasis is commonly seen in adult dogs and cats. The prevalence, approximately 10 to 25 %, can vary depending mainly on the animal’s age and the health of the oral cavity. Therefore parasitological examination should be performed during the diagnostic process of periodontal disease to facilitate a proper treatment.
