AKI definiuje się jako zespół zaburzeń związanych z uszkodzeniem miąższu i upośledzeniem czynności nerek w wyniku nagłego niedokrwienia, zatrucia lub zakażenia. W przebiegu AKI dochodzi do zaburzenia GFR i intoksykacji organizmu. Podstawę leczenia AKI stanowią intensywna płynoterapia, korekta zaburzeń jonowych i wyrównanie zaburzeń równowagi kwasowo-zasadowej.

The mainstay of the AKI treatment is intensive fluid therapy, correction of ionic disturbances and the correction of acid-base disturbances.
