Streszczenie
Odwodnienie to stan, w którym zawartość wody w organizmie spada poniżej wartości niezbędnej do jego prawidłowego funkcjonowania. Zagrożeniem życia jest jego skrajna postać – wstrząs. Najczęstszym powodem utraty płynów są choroby przewodu pokarmowego objawiające się biegunką i wymiotami. Płyny do terapii odwodnienia można podzielić na krystaloidy i koloidy. Niewłaściwe dobranie płynu do wlewu prowadzi do bardzo niebezpiecznych zaburzeń w postaci: obrzęku płuc, obrzęku mózgu, hiperchloremii i odwodnienia hipotonicznego.

Abstract
The term dehydration describes the state when the amount of water in a body decreases below the level necessary for the normal functioning of the organism. The extreme dehydration (shock), is a life threatening condition. Common diseases leading to dehydration include gastrointestinal diseases with diarrhea and vomiting. Dehydration is treated with fluids: crystalloids and colloids. Improper fluid selection may result in dangerous disturbances such as: pulmonary edema, cerebral edema, hyperchloremia and hypotonic dehydration.
