Streszczenie
W codziennej praktyce dość często spotykamy się z zabiegami diagnostycznymi lub terapeutycznymi, których wykonanie wymaga uspokojenia farmakologicznego zwierzęcia. Istnieje wiele różnorodnych wskazań do zastosowania leków uspokajających, analgetycznych i anestetycznych. Przy doborze leków do sedacji lub też znieczulenia ogólnego bierzemy pod uwagę czynniki zależne od pacjenta: przede wszystkim gatunek i rasę zwierzęcia, wiek, temperament (pobudliwość), obecność innych chorób (cukrzyca, przewlekła niewydolność nerek, dysfunkcje lub choroby układu krążenia czy układu oddechowego, itd.), czy też np. ciążę.

Abstract
Quite frequently the diagnostic or therapeutic procedures performed in everyday practice require pharmacological sedation of the animal. There exist a number of indications to use sedative, analgesic and anesthetic drugs. When deciding which drug to use for sedation or general anesthesia we consider patient dependent factors such as species and breed of the animal, its age, temper (excitability), presence of other diseases (diabetes, chronic renal failure, cardiovascular diseases and respiratory system diseases) or, e.g., pregnancy.
