Streszczenie
W terapii świnek morskich, szczurów, gekonów czy papug lekarze weterynarii posiłkują się często lekami standardowo stosowanymi u psów czy kotów. Jeśli jakiś preparat sprawdza się w znoszeniu bólu u psa, wcale nie musi to oznaczać, że może być on stosowany z tym samym wskazaniem i powodzeniem np. u kameleona. Zwierzęta egzotyczne to bardzo szerokie pojęcie. Wśród osobników należących do tej grupy są znaczące różnice fizjologiczne i behawioralne, a co za tym idzie – inaczej działają poszczególne leki. Praca ma na celu odpowiedź na pytanie: jaki preparat zastosować u egzotycznego pacjenta – butorfanol, czy burenorfinę?

Abstract
In the treatment of guinea pigs, rats, geckos and parrots veterinary surgeons apply medications commonly used in dogs or cats. If a medicine decreases pain in a dog it is not necessarily an indication that it can be successfully used to treat pain in, e.g. a chameleon. Exotic pets include a broad group of species with different physiology and behaviour, and thus the action of drugs may also be different. The paper aims to answer the question which drug, butorphanol or buprenorphine, should be used in the treatment of an exotic patient?
