Tłuszcze stanowią podstawowe źródło energii oraz niezbędnych kwasów tłuszczowych i witamin rozpuszczalnych w tłuszczach. Najczęściej mówi się o prozdrowotnym wpływie PUFA, regulacyjnym działaniu MUFA na gospodarkę lipidową organizmu oraz wykorzystaniu MCFA w chorobach przewodu pokarmowego, przebiegających z zaburzeniami wchłaniania i trawienia. W tym przypadku, ale nie tylko, zalecane są również probiotyczne kultury bakteryjne oraz prebiotyki.

Abstract
Fat is a basic source of energy as well as essential fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins. Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are best known for their health-promoting benefits, while monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) exert a regulative impact on the lipid metabolism. Medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA) can be useful in gastrointestinal diseases characterised by malabsorption and maldigestion. In those cases probiotic cultures and prebiotics are also helpful.
