Kulawizna jest objawem chorobowym, który towarzyszy wielu jednostkom chorobowym. Ze względu na częstotliwość występowania należy ona do największych problemów, z jakimi borykają się hodowcy zarówno bydła mlecznego, jak i mięsnego. Stanowi często główny powód brakowania zwierząt ze stada. Wpływa negatywnie na inne aspekty hodowli, jak rozród czy wymiona, co powoduje, że kulawizna należy do najbardziej kosztownych przypadłości w nowoczesnej hodowli bydła. Stopień zarządzania ryzykiem występowania, leczenie i zapobiegania kulawizną często warunkują opłacalność danej hodowli.

Abstract
Limping is a symptom which accompanies many diseases. Due to its incidence, the disease is one of the main problems in both milk and meat cattle herds and is common reason for culling sick animals. The disease has also negative influence on other breeding aspects, such as reproduction or udder diseases, thus limping is one of the most expensive issues in modern cattle breeding. The level of incidence risk management, treatment and prevention of limping are often most important factors of herd profitability.
