Nadwaga i otyłość to problem dotyczący coraz większej liczby koni, a skłonność do tycia jest związana z różnymi czynnikami. Monitorowanie masy ciała nie daje pełnej informacji o kondycji zwierzęcia, bowiem sam pomiar nie pozwala na rozróżnienie masy mięśniowej od masy tkanki tłuszczowej. Ocena BCS oraz CNS jest łatwym, szybkim i tanim sposobem kontroli kondycji zwierzęcia, a regularnie przeprowadzana pozwala na zauważenie nawet niewielkich zmian i szybszą reakcję właściciela.

Abstract
Overweight and obesity are problems affecting an increasing number of horses, and their tendency to gain weight is associated with various factors. Body weight monitoring fails to give complete information about the animal’s condition, because the measurement alone does not allow for distinguishing between muscle mass and fat mass. The assessment of BCS and CNS is an easy, fast and cheap way of controlling the condition of the animal, and regularly carried out allows for observing even minor changes and contributes to a faster reaction of the owner.
