Streszczenie
Szyjka macicy odgrywa ważną rolę w funkcjonowaniu narządu płciowego. Prawidłowo funkcjonująca szyjka macicy umożliwia przechodzenie plemników do macicy oraz ewakuację zanieczyszczeń z macicy po kryciu. Najczęściej notowane nieprawidłowości w obrębie szyjki, czyli urazy i zrosty, są bezpośrednio związane z porodem. Zwłóknienie szyjki macicy może być skutkiem starzenia. Metody badania szyjki macicy to bezpośrednia palpacja z dostępu przez pochwę oraz waginoskopia. W celu uzyskania relaksacji szyjki macicy można podawać misoprostol. Z kolei w przypadku uszkodzeń szyjki macicy chirurgiczna korekcja jest metodą z wyboru.

Abstract
The uterine cervix plays an important role in the function of the reproductive tract. Normal cervix facilitates passage of sperm into the uterus, and allows the removal of debris from the uterus after breeding. The most common abnormalities of the cervix are directly connected with parturition, and are manifested as adhesions and lacerations. Fibrosis of the cervix is a results of aging. The best methods of cervical examinations are a direct palpation of the cervix and vaginoscopy. Prostaglandins, including misoprostol, can be used to relax the cervix muscle. In the case of cervical lacerations, surgical repair is the method of choice.
