Streszczenie
Celem pracy było scharakteryzowanie przedżołądka − księgi, który jest istotną częścią przewodu pokarmowego u przeżuwaczy oraz jego zaburzeń występujących u bydła mlecznego. Autorzy w prezentowanej pracy zwracają uwagę na rolę ksiąg w prawidłowym funkcjonowaniu układu pokarmowego. Jest to trzeci po żwaczu i czepcu przedżołądek, który odpowiada głównie za wchłanianie wody, potasu i magnezu. Jego kulisty kształt i budowa anatomiczna złożona z tworów przypominających kartki książki (blaszek) zwiększa powierzchnię wchłaniania.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to characterize the forestomach – omasum, which is a significant part of the gastrointestinal tract in ruminants and its disorders that occur in dairy cattle.In the paper the authors highlight the role of omasum in correct functioning of the alimentary system. The third forestomach after the reticulum and the rumen is responsible for the main absorption of water, natrium, potassium and magnesium. Its spherical shape and anatomical structure consisting of formations similar to the sheets of a book, increase the absorption surface.
