Streszczenie
Do momentu potwierdzenia obecności pestiwirusów u takich zwierząt, jak nietoperze czy szczury, powszechnie akceptowany był pogląd, że jest to grupa patogenów typowa dla zwierząt kopytnych, a CSFV był uznawany za jedynego przedstawiciela rodzaju Pestivirus patogennego dla świń, o istotnym znaczeniu klinicznym. Odkrycie „nowych” pestiwirusów pokazało, że zróżnicowanie w obrębie rodzaju Pestivirus jest dużo większe, niż dotychczas sądzono. Jest wielce prawdopodobne, że w kolejce na odkrycie „czekają” nowe patogeny z tego rodzaju, krążące w populacji świń domowych i dzikich czy wśród przeżuwaczy.

Abstract
Until the presence of pestiviruses in animals such as bats or rats was confirmed, it had been widely accepted that this was a group of pathogens typical of ungulates, with CSFV being considered the only representative of clinically important pestivirus pathogenic for pigs. The discovery of the „new” pestiviruses showed that diversity within the genus Pestivirus is greater than previously thought. It is very likely that new pathogens of this kind, circulating in the population of domestic and wild pigs or ruminants, are waiting to be discovered.
