Streszczenie
Jajniki odgrywają kluczową rolę w szeroko rozumianym rozrodzie, będąc źródłem komórek jajowych oraz hormonów steroidowych. Najważniejsze z nich, estrogeny i progesteron, wraz z innymi hormonami osi podwzgórze – przysadka – gonady są niezbędnymi elementami fizjologicznych i behawioralnych zmian towarzyszących: różnicowaniu pęcherzyków, owulacji, formowaniu się ciałka żółtego, utrzymaniu ciąży oraz prawidłowemu przebiegowi porodu, a także przygotowaniu do laktacji. Każde zaburzenie równowagi na poszczególnych etapach aktywności jajników może skutkować powstaniem patologii w obrębie tego narządu, prowadząc do bezpłodności.

Abstract
The ovaries play a key role in the reproduction, being a source of oocytes and steroid hormones. The most important of them, estrogens and progesterone, along with other hormones of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, are essential elements of the physiological and behavioral changes accompanying follicle differentiation, ovulation, corpus luteum formation, maintenance of pregnancy and the proper course of labor, as well as preparation for lactation. Any imbalance at different stages of ovarian activity may result in the development of pathologies within this organ, leading to infertility.
