Streszczenie
W przypadku świń, ze względu na ich zachowania oraz sposób utrzymania, uzyskanie płynu ustnego nie stanowi problemu technicznego. Wysokie koszty metod badawczych oraz pracochłonność pobierania i badania często setek indywidualnych próbek ze stad trzody chlewnej są przyczyną podejmowania wysiłków zmierzających do opracowania metod tańszych, łatwiejszych do zastosowania, przy jak najmniejszej utracie czułości wykrywania infekcji. Dlatego materiałem, który jest alternatywą wobec krwi czy surowicy, jest tzw. płyn ustny. Terminem tym określa się mieszaninę śliny i przesączu błony śluzowej jamy ustnej. Zarówno przesącz, jak i ślina mogą zawierać przeciwciała, jak też drobnoustroje powodujące choroby.

Abstract
The collection of oral fluid samples in swine is easy due to the animals’ behavior and the farm environmental conditions. The high costs of analytic methods and work overload caused by collecting and examining hundreds of individual swine samples compel scientists to work using cheaper and easier, but still sensitive, methods of infection finding. Oral fluid, a mix of saliva and the oral mucosa filtrate, is an interesting alternative for blood or serum samples. Both filtrate and saliva may contain pathogenic microflora antibodies.
