Zapobieganie chorobom zawsze będzie bardziej skuteczne i tańsze niż leczenie, na które czasami może być już za późno. Jedną z często występujących i groźnych chorób metabolicznych jest hipokalcemia, która powoduje duże straty ekonomiczne, a w skrajnym przypadku kończy się śmiercią zwierzęcia. Zastosowanie w żywieniu krów zasuszonych soli anionowych może znacznie ograniczyć, a nawet wyeliminować pojawienie się hipokalcemii, której następstwem są często zalegania poporodowe występujące krótko po porodzie.
