Obserwowane fluktuacje w pogłowiu trzody chlewnej są związane głównie z brakiem opłacalności produkcji, która z kolei jest uwarunkowana występowaniem chorób zakaźnych, w tym afrykańskiego pomoru świń (ASF). Do chwili obecnej brak jest skutecznej szczepionki przeciwko ASF, a jedynym sposobem ograniczenia wpływu występowania tej epizoocji, która ma kluczowy wpływ na spadek opłacalności produkcji świń w Europie jest skrupulatne wdrażanie zasad bioasekuracji przez hodowców trzody chlewnej, niezależnie od wielkości fermy czy typu produkcji.

Abstract
The observed fluctuations in the pig population are mainly related to the lack of production profitability, which is mainly caused by the presence of infectious diseases, including African swine fever (ASF). To date, there is no effective vaccine against ASF, therefore the only way to reduce the negative impact of this epizootic, which has a crucial impact on the decline in profitability of pig production in Europe, is a strict implementation of biosecurity rules by pig farmers, independently of the farm size or type of production.
