Warunki środowiskowe podczas wzrostu roślin paszowych, a także przechowywania surowców i gotowych pasz mają decydujący wpływ na rozwój grzybów pleśniowych i wytwarzanie przez nie mikotoksyn. Mikotoksyny stanowią aktualnie jedno z największych zagrożeń w produkcji zwierzęcej, a także największych wyzwań dla hodowcy, powodując znaczące straty ekonomiczne wynikające z niższej produkcji i problemów zdrowotnych zwierząt. Ważnym aspektem jest świadomość producentów i konsumentów dotycząca stopnia skażenia środków żywienia zwierząt i możliwości praktycznego ich ograniczania.

Abstract
Environmental conditions during the growth of feed plants, as well as storage of raw materials and feed mixtures, have a decisive impact on the development of mold fungi and mycotoxins production. Mycotoxins are currently one of the biggest threats in animal production, as well as the biggest challenge for the farmer, causing significant economic losses resulting from lower production and animal health problems. An important aspect is the awareness of producers and consumers regarding the degree of contamination of animal feeds and possibilities of their reduction.
