Streszczenie
Najważniejszym działaniem leków z grupy bisfosfonianów jest doprowadzenie do apoptozy osteoklastów, a w konsekwencji do zahamowania resorpcji kości. Leki te były stosowane w medycynie ludzkiej od lat 60. w leczeniu m.in. osteoporozy czy choroby Pageta. W medycynie weterynaryjnej zaczęto je stosować od około dwutysięcznego roku. Bisfosfoniany są stosowane u koni głównie w terapii syndromu trzeszczkowego, choć znajdują zastosowanie również w leczeniu innych chorób.

Abstract
Bisphosphonates are a group of drugs whose primary effect is inhibition of bone resorption by causing osteoclasts apoptosis. They have been used since the 1960s to treat human diseases such as osteoporosis or Paget’s Disease, but their use in veterinary medicine only began in 2000s. The main indication for their use is treatment of the navicular syndrome in horses, but they can be also beneficial in other equine diseases.
